• Online documentations offer the possibility to pass the different limitations of printed documentation, for example the integration of text-graphic-audio-video animation.
• Online documents can be updated and distributed daily.
• From a large number of detail information, you can display relevant customized information to your customer.
• Another factor, which is not to be neglected, are the preparation- and distribution costs, that are considerably lower than compared to the print.

Nevertheless the electronic documentation is not the 1:1 transfer of the printout to the screen (although the inventors of single-source-publishing wants us to believe that)!

Online-Systems

A distinction is drawn between page- and window oriented systems:

• A well-known page oriented online system is Adobe Acrobat for displaying and editing the Portable Document Format (PDF).
• The well-known window oriented systems are the classical Windows help and the web-based HTML help.
